Welcome to Happy Recipe Box!
I am Rachel, a wife, mother, and home cook. As our family recovers from multiple health challenges, I have been on a learning curve using food as one of our healing strategies. Here I share recipes I developed during the year we did the GAPS diet. Although we are not strictly doing GAPS anymore, much of what we eat is still GAPS compliant. If you aren’t doing GAPS, these recipes will still be just fine for getting nourishing meals together using simple ingredients, in a reasonable time frame, and on a budget.
You are in the right place if:
- you want to prepare your food from scratch
- you like whole food and natural healing
- you value both frugality and quality food
- you need to pull meals together quickly
- you are considering (or doing) GAPS
- you view your food as part of your health
- you believe nourishing food should taste good!
How Happy Recipe Box Came About
I have liked to cook almost as long as I can remember. I have had health problems longer than that. When my oldest son had life threatening food allergies, I learned to cook for him in different ways. As my own health deteriorated, I began to learn how food affects our bodies and minds.
Although food is not the only way we address our health challenges, we have shifted our diet to help different family members with food and environmental allergy, asthma, autoimmune disease, Lyme, OCD and anxiety, IBS, and more.
Our food is a low-hanging fruit when it comes to our health. After all, we all need to eat daily. At a minimum, we don’t want to do damage with our food choices. Why not aim a little higher and use the foods God provided for us as part of our health plan? It makes sense, whether you are recovering or simply trying to maintain good health.
I believe God designed us to work perfectly. While we could consider many causes for the onslaught of chronic disease today, from the fall to toxins to pharmaceuticals and beyond, any list of causes must include the Standard American Diet. SAD! Happy Recipe Box is my contribution to turning that around. Happy food for body, mind, and soul, and happy meals together.
Join me as I share the recipes I use in our home. You don’t have to figure it out on your own! You can use the recipes as written, tweak them to suit your own preferences or dietary needs (or what you have on hand!), and use the GAPS-ifying suggestions I include with most of the recipes.
Happy eating!
