Cranberry sauce is a holiday staple that, delicious as it is, can be laden with sugar. Learn how to sweeten your cranberry sauce naturally with orange, apple, and a little bit of honey for a healthy cranberry sauce that is better for you and, dare I say, even tastier than the original. You will love this easy cranberry sauce!
1orange (preferably organic, since we are eating the peel), juiced and zested
1/4- 1/2Craw honey
Instructions
Combine cranberries and juice of the orange (about 1/4 C) in a saucepan over low heat.
Peel and grate apples to equal about 1 C; stir into the cranberry mixture along with the zest of the orange (about 1 T).
Cook over low heat, stirring frequently. As more liquid releases from the fruit, you can increase the heat to medium.
Allow the mixture to boil gently until the cranberries pop and the apples break down a bit-- the mixture will turn red. The whole cooking process will take about 10-15 minutes.
Cool for 10-15 minutes, then stir in honey. Scoop into your desired serving bowl. Cool well in refrigerator. (Or cool first before moving it into the serving bowl.)
